Matt Bell is the Founder of TradeCompliance.Software - a website designed to review, research, and compare software and data providers in the trade compliance industry. As a former chief compliance officer, senior legal counsel, and founding partner of an award winning consulting practice, Matt is a recognized expert in international trade compliance, specializing in export controls & economic sanctions regulations. He is regularly sought out as a speaker across the globe on geopolitics, China, and technology - especially as to how they impact trade compliance policies around the world.
His industry expertise spans the energy, telecommunications, technology, and aerospace/defense sectors. He previously served as a strategic advisor to US and non-US multinational companies on nuanced issues such as encryption controls, de minimis analyses, foreign direct product rules, disclosure decisions, settlement negotiations, and the wind-down of operations in sanctioned jurisdictions.
Over his career, Matt built best-in-class compliance programs under intense government scrutiny. He has successfully guided companies through record-setting civil and criminal settlements, government investigations, mandated audits, and monitorships. He has extensive experience working with the US Departments of Justice, Commerce, Treasury, State, and Energy, as well as the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and has overseen highly complex global investigations in the most challenging regions worldwide.
Matt has served as an advisory board member since the inception of ACSS and worked on the task forces to design both the CSS and CXS certifications.
